Pole Step, to meet ASTM A575 and A576, Grades 1020-1025, inclusive. Pole Steps shall be the hook head type with fetter drive threads and be of new, hot-rolled, open hearth steel, 3/4" diameter, 14" overall length, 2" head length, 4-3/4" thread length. Each pole step shall be provided with a flat driving head centered with respect to the center line of the shank. The diameter and thickness of the driving head shall be not less than 5/16-inch and 1/16-inch, respectively. To indicate driving depth, each pole step shall be provided with either a raised or knurled ring located 5-1/2" from the point of the step. The completed pole step shall be capable of being bent cold, at any point, through an angle of 75 degrees, about a diameter equal to the diameter of the step without cracking the steel on the outside of the bent portion. Pole steps to be galvanized in accordance with the requirements of ASTM A153, as last revised, except that the uniformity of coating shall be determined in accordance with ASTM A329.
