Low-E glass—The glass is coated with silver and metallic oxide on its surface to give different colors. The main purpose is to reduce the U value of the glass, meanwhile selectively reduce Sc, so as to entirely improve the energy-saving feature of the glass.The energy efficiendy of Low-E glass is represented through its shading performance on the sunlight thermal radiation-thermal insulation and resistance performance on heat escape-heat preservation. Due to different areas and different requirements on its design, Low-E glass is classified into two big series-high light transmittance type and sun shading type.

The Sc (Shading coefficient) of the High light transmittance type Low-E glass is not less than 0.5. This reduces the attenuation of the penetrated solar energy. This is applicable in the northern part of China where heating installation is mostly used. The radiation of the solar energy waveband can pass through this Low-E glass and enters room in winter and then turns into far infrared radiation that cannot pass through the Low-E glass after absorbed by indoor objects and is restricted in the room together with the heat radiation emitted by indoor heating installation, thus save the heat cost.

The Sc of the Sun Shading Type Low-E glass is less than 0.5 and it has more attenuation towards the solar energy that passes through. This is applicable in the southern part of China where air conditioner is mostly used. In summer the solar energy can be maximally restricted to go indoors and the far infrared radiation from outside is also prevented, thus save the cost of using the air conditioner.

Different types of Low-E glass are applicable in different climatological regions. In terms of energy saving, its functionality has covered solar control coated glass.
